Orca PROBUS

Courtenay, B.C., Canada

Bridge Group

Our bridge club is a friendly group of PROBUS members who meet in individual homes the first and third Tuesday evening of each month. We play social bridge and enjoy coffee and a few goodies too.

We welcome new members! (and for people with busy schedules - do consider adding your name to our active spare list). Though our picture appears to be about females, we do love to have the gents come too. It really is fun.😀

Photography Group

Host: Bruce Ellis

3rd Thursday of every month

The change in the name of the group from "Camera Group" is an indication on what this group will involve in the future.  There will be less discussion on the technical aspects of taking pictures and more about just taking pictures and getting the most out of the camera you own.

We decided to start with a premise.  We will watch a 30 minute course by Joel Sartore on TV and then share digital photos on a subject also on TV.  Some meetings may involve a field trip (example going to Nymph Falls to photograph water flowing).

The most important thing to remember, this is not a technical photography course, this is a social gathering.  A chance to meet friends and discuss pictures.

We will publish the monthly favourite here in our Group area for you all to see.

This month's feature topic is "Candid shots of people".

Quilting Group

The Quilting Group gets together on the third Tuesday of each month. The meetings are held in members' homes, rotating through the group. At each gathering there is a 'show and tell' during which members exhibit their latest creations and discuss techniques and practices.

Following the 'show and tell' light refreshments are served and the group socializes.

Reading Group

The Orca Probus Reading group meets monthly in the morning of the last Friday of the month. Members take turns home hosting with light goodies and leading the discussion on our current book. Book selections are made with input and suggestions from within the group. We welcome diversity in our book selection in order to reach beyond what individual members might normally choose to read. When possible we take advantage of the local library service and willingly share copies between ourselves.

The group currently consists of twelve ladies and includes a few “friends” of Orca PROBUS members.

New members would be welcomed.
